Kitetags Quickstart: Set Up Your First NFC Tag
Claim your Kitetag, verify it with Test Flight, set up a URL redirect, and create a digital vCard — all in under five minutes.
What you need before you start
- A Kitetag card. If you do not have one yet, order a free Try Kitetags card from the Tagstand shop (shipping charges apply).
- A smartphone with NFC support. Most iPhones made after 2018 (iPhone XS and later) and most Android devices support NFC natively.
- On iPhone, the NFC reader is at the top edge. On Android, it is typically on the back of the phone near the center.
Step 1: Create your account by tapping an unclaimed Kitetag
Hold your smartphone near the Kitetag card. Your phone reads the tag and opens a setup page in your browser.
Follow the on-screen prompts to create your Kitetags account. The platform automatically claims the tag and links it to your new account.
Once your account is ready, the tag lands in the Test Flight group. This is a built-in group that verifies your tag works correctly.
Step 2: Verify your tag with Test Flight
Test Flight is a built-in App that confirms your Kitetag is working. Tap the tag again with your phone.
You should see a screen showing:
- UID — the unique hardware identifier of your tag
- Callsign — the human-readable name for your tag (for example, “kite-8247”)
If both values appear, your tag is working and ready to configure.
Step 3: Set up a URL redirect
Now you will make your Kitetag redirect to any website when tapped.
- Sign in to kitetags.com and open the dashboard.
- Find your Kitetag in the Test Flight group.
- Move the tag to the “Get started with URL Redirects” group. This built-in group comes with the URL Redirect App already configured.
- Select your tag and enter a Target URL — the web address you want the tag to open (for example,
https://your-website.com). - Save your changes.
Test it: Tap your Kitetag with your phone. Your browser should open and navigate to the Target URL you entered.
Step 4: Set up a digital business card (vCard)
Next, turn your Kitetag into a digital business card that people can save to their contacts.
- Go back to the dashboard.
- Move your Kitetag to the “Get started with vCards” group. This built-in group uses the vCard App.
- Select your tag and fill in the contact fields — name, email, phone number, company, title, and any other details you want to share.
- Save your changes.
Test it: Tap your Kitetag with your phone. You should see a prompt to download or save a contact card. Open it to verify your details are correct.
Your Kitetag is live
Your tag now has two configured interactions: a URL redirect and a vCard. Move the tag between groups at any time to change what happens when someone taps it.
