What is a Kitetag Group?

A Kitetag Group is a container for one or more Kitetags. Every tag in a group shares the same Kitetag Data Structure (KDS) and Kitetag Interaction (KI). Think of it as a folder that also controls how its tags behave.

Every Kitetag belongs to exactly one group at a time. When you change a group’s KDS or KI, all tags in that group update immediately.

How to create a Kitetag Group

  1. Open the Kitetags dashboard and navigate to Groups.
  2. Click Create Group.
  3. Give the group a descriptive name, such as “Conference Badges” or “Product Tags.”
  4. Assign a KDS and a KI to the group (you can change these later).
  5. Click Save.

Your new group is now ready to hold tags. You can add tags by moving them from another group or by claiming new tags directly into it.

How generated groups work

When you claim a Kitetag for the first time, the platform automatically creates a generated group for it. Generated groups use the Test Flight App so you can verify the tag is working right away.

You do not need to keep tags in generated groups. Most users move their tags to a custom group with the data structure and interaction they need.

How to rename a Kitetag Group

  1. Open the group you want to rename.
  2. Click the group name or the edit icon next to it.
  3. Enter the new name and confirm.

Renaming a group does not affect the tags, data, or interactions inside it.

How to move tags between groups

  1. Open the group that currently holds the tag.
  2. Select the tag (or tags) you want to move.
  3. Click Move and choose the destination group.

Changes take effect immediately after the move. The next time someone taps the tag, it will use the new group’s interaction.

How to view individual tags in a group

Expand a group in the dashboard to see every tag inside it. Each tag displays its Callsign, UID, and current data values.

Click on a tag to view its full details, edit its data, or check its tap history. You can also use the CSV export feature to view and edit all tags in a group at once.

Bulk editing with CSV export and import

For groups with many tags, editing one by one is slow. Instead, you can export the group’s data as a CSV file, make changes in a spreadsheet app, and reimport the updated file. See the CSV import and export guide for step-by-step instructions.
