What problem does an NFC business card solve?

Paper business cards get lost, thrown away, or never entered into contacts. Digital alternatives like QR codes require the other person to open a camera app. An NFC business card just works — one tap and your info is in their phone.

How does the Kitetags solution work?

You load your contact information into a Kitetag using the vCard app. When someone taps the tag with their phone, the Kitetags platform generates a vCard file and prompts the recipient to save it to their contacts.

How do you set it up?

Step 1 — Create a group for business cards

  1. Log in to your Kitetags dashboard.
  2. Create a new Kitetag Group called “Business Cards.”
  3. When defining the KDS (data structure), select the Contact Info preset. This includes fields for:
    • First name
    • Last name
    • Phone number
    • Email address
    • Company
    • Job title
    • Website URL

Step 2 — Add tags and fill in contact details

  1. Add your Kitetag cards to the group.
  2. For each card, fill in the KDS fields with the cardholder’s information.

Step 3 — Configure the vCard interaction

  1. Create an interaction on the group.
  2. Select the vCard app as the action.
  3. Map the KDS fields to the vCard fields (first name, last name, phone, email, etc.).
  4. Save the interaction.

Step 4 — Test the card

Tap the Kitetag with your phone. You should see a prompt to save a contact. Open the contact and verify all details are correct.

What do recipients experience?

  1. You hand them your Kitetag card (or they tap a tag on your desk, lanyard, or phone case).
  2. Their phone vibrates or displays a notification within one second.
  3. A contact card appears with your name, phone, email, and other details.
  4. They tap Save or Add to Contacts, and you are in their phone.

No app is required. This works natively on modern iPhones and Android devices.

Tips for a great NFC business card

  • Keep your info up to date. Unlike paper cards, you can update your KDS fields anytime through the Kitetags dashboard. Every future tap delivers the latest info.
  • Use the Contact Info KDS preset. It is purpose-built for vCards and ensures the right fields are available.
  • Add a website URL. Link to your portfolio, LinkedIn profile, or company page so recipients can learn more.
  • Test across devices. Try tapping with both an iPhone and an Android phone to confirm the vCard renders correctly on each platform.
  • Combine with URL Redirect. Add a second interaction using the URL Redirect app to open your LinkedIn or portfolio page alongside the vCard download. See the smart business card example for details.
