Zapier — Automate NFC Workflows Without Code
Connect Kitetag taps to thousands of apps through Zapier. Trigger zaps on every tap to log data, send notifications, update CRMs, and run AI workflows.
What does the Zapier app do?
The Zapier app connects a Kitetag tap to the Zapier automation platform. When someone taps your tag, the Kitetags platform fires a trigger that starts your published zap. From there, Zapier handles the rest — sending emails, updating spreadsheets, posting messages, or running any other action you configure.
The tapper does not need a phone app. The automation runs entirely on the Kitetags and Zapier servers.
When should you use Zapier?
Use Zapier when you want to connect NFC taps to other apps without writing code. It is a good fit when:
- You want to build workflows visually using Zapier’s editor.
- You need to connect to apps that do not have a direct webhook ingestion endpoint.
- You want to chain multiple actions together (for example, log a tap, then send an SMS, then update a CRM record).
If you only need to send raw JSON to a single endpoint, Webhooks is a simpler option.
What are the requirements?
- A Zapier account (free or paid).
- A Kitetags API key, which you generate from your account settings at kitetags.com.
- A KDS assigned to your tag with the data you want available in the zap.
How do you set up the Zapier app?
Step 1 — Generate your Kitetags API key
- Log in to your account at kitetags.com.
- Go to your account settings.
- Select Generate API Key. Copy the key and store it somewhere safe.
Step 2 — Connect Kitetags on Zapier
- Log in to Zapier.
- Create a new zap.
- Search for Kitetags in the trigger app list.
- Select the Kitetags trigger event.
- When prompted, paste your Kitetags API key to authenticate the connection.
Step 3 — Build and publish your zap
- Configure the trigger settings (select which tags or groups should fire the zap).
- Add one or more action steps. For example, add a Google Sheets row, send a Slack message, or create a HubSpot contact.
- Test the zap to confirm data flows correctly.
- Publish the zap. Unpublished zaps will not run when tags are tapped.
Step 4 — Assign the app to your tags
- In the Kitetags dashboard, set the app to Zapier in your tag’s Kitetag Interaction (KI) settings.
- Tap the tag to verify the zap triggers as expected.
How much does Zapier cost with Kitetags?
Each Kitetag tap that triggers a zap counts as one task on your Zapier plan. The number of tasks you get depends on your Zapier plan tier.
For most use cases, Zapier’s standard plan quotas are generous enough to cover typical tap volumes. If you expect high-volume usage (for example, hundreds of taps per day at a busy event), consider enabling pay-per-task billing on your Zapier account to avoid hitting your quota limit.
For full details on Zapier pricing and task limits, see the Zapier pricing page.
What are common use cases?
- AI-powered workflows — Trigger an AI action (like summarizing or categorizing tap data) using Zapier’s built-in AI tools or OpenAI integration.
- Google Sheets logging — Append a row to a spreadsheet every time a tag is tapped. Useful for attendance tracking, asset check-ins, or audit logs.
- SMS notifications — Send a text message to a manager or team member when a specific tag is tapped.
- CRM integration — Create or update a contact record in HubSpot, Salesforce, or another CRM when someone taps a networking card.
