URL Redirect — Send NFC Taps to Any Webpage
Set up URL Redirect to send anyone who taps your Kitetag to a target URL. Works with websites, forms, app links, and landing pages — no phone app needed.
What does URL Redirect do?
URL Redirect takes the tapper straight to a webpage after they tap your Kitetag. The redirect happens in the tapper’s mobile browser. No app install is required on the tapper’s phone.
You control the destination by setting a target URL in your tag’s Kitetag Data Structure (KDS). Every tap opens that URL.
When should you use URL Redirect?
Use URL Redirect whenever you want a tap to open a specific webpage. Common scenarios include:
- Sending customers to a product page or promotional landing page.
- Linking to an online form or survey.
- Opening a company website or portfolio.
- Launching a mobile app via a deep link or app store URL.
- Directing event attendees to a schedule or registration page.
What are the requirements?
You need a KDS with a field named Target URL. This is the only field the URL Redirect app reads. Any other fields in the KDS are ignored by this app.
The target URL must be a valid, publicly accessible web address (including https://).
How do you set up URL Redirect?
- Create a KDS in the Kitetags dashboard. Add a single field and name it Target URL.
- Assign the KDS to the tag or Group you want to redirect.
- Enter your target URL in the Target URL field for each tag. Include the full URL with protocol (for example,
https://example.com/landing). - Set the app to URL Redirect in the tag’s Kitetag Interaction (KI) settings.
- Tap the tag to test. Your phone’s browser should open the target URL immediately.
If the redirect does not work, switch the tag back to Test Flight to confirm the tag is claimed and the KDS data is correct.
What are common use cases?
- Product marketing — Place tags on packaging, shelf displays, or print ads that link to product pages.
- Company websites — Embed tags in business cards or brochures that open your homepage or about page.
- Event pages — Attach tags to badges or signage that link to schedules, maps, or feedback forms.
- Web forms — Direct tappers to registration forms, surveys, or support ticket pages.
- Mobile app launchers — Use app store URLs or deep links so the tap opens or installs your mobile app.
