What does Test Flight do?

Test Flight displays diagnostic information about your Kitetag in the tapper’s browser. When someone taps a tag running Test Flight, they see:

  • UID — The tag’s unique hardware identifier.
  • Callsign — The human-readable name you assigned to the tag.
  • Built-in data — Any data fields stored in the tag’s Kitetag Data Structure (KDS).
  • HTML5 geolocation — The tapper’s approximate location, if they grant browser permission.

No phone app is required. The tapper’s browser loads the Test Flight page automatically.

When should you use Test Flight?

Test Flight is a diagnostic tool, not a production app. Use it when you need to:

  • Confirm a tag is physically working and responds to taps.
  • Verify a tag has been claimed to your Kitetags account.
  • Inspect the data currently stored on a tag.
  • Check that geolocation prompts appear correctly.

Once you have confirmed everything looks right, switch the tag to a production app like URL Redirect or vCard.

What are the requirements?

Test Flight has no special requirements. You do not need to create a KDS or configure any settings. Every new Kitetag ships with Test Flight as its default app.

How do you use Test Flight?

  1. Tap your Kitetag with any NFC-enabled smartphone.
  2. Review the information displayed in the browser. You should see the tag’s UID, callsign, and any associated data.
  3. Allow or deny geolocation when the browser prompts you. This is optional and only affects the location data shown on the page.
  4. Switch to a production app once you have confirmed the tag is claimed and working. You can change the app from the Kitetags dashboard.

What are common use cases?

  • Unboxing verification — Tap each tag immediately after receiving your order to confirm every tag in the batch is functional.
  • Troubleshooting — Switch a tag back to Test Flight to rule out hardware issues when debugging an integration.
  • Demos — Show stakeholders what a Kitetag tap looks like before committing to a specific app configuration.
