Kitetags are specially encoded NFC tags that are designed to work with the Kitetags platform. Kitetags offer a “no code” solution for building sophisticated applications.

NFC Kitetags

An NFC tag consists of an IC and antenna coil which are packaged as a sticker, card, wristband, or other form factor. Kitetags are NFC tags exclusively manufactured and distributed by Tagstand.

Kitetags Platform

Kitetags Managers login to the Kitetags platform as a hosted web service to manage their Kitetags. The platform also delivers the configured interaction after a Kitetag gets tapped.

How it works

After being tapped, a Kitetag directs the smartphone browser to the Kitetags platform which serves a webpage (if configured) and then performs a Kitetag Interaction for that specific Kitetag.

How NFC Works

Traditional NFC works using a reader device that powers an IC antenna and triggers the loading of tag information encoded in storage on the NFC tag. It is transmitted to the reader device during the short duration after the tap.

It is up to the device connected to reader to create an application from this tap action. What gets triggered by a tap can be anything, but it requires some engineering.

The story behind each tag starts even earlier, before a tap. Every tap must be encoded with data. This can be quite simple, text data, a URL, identifiers, etc. Manufacturing is the typical place for this data to be encoded to the NFC tags. This is a somewhat complex process. At a small scale, this isn’t practical to do at manufacturing time. One can manually encode data, but it is a lot of work, and complex for hundreds of tags.
